i've always said, swARTHmore but then i've heard it sort of slurred like SWATHmore with no real "r" sound. i'm having my interview soon, so it'd be nice to know. i don't really think it's a big deal, but it's always nice to pronounce it right...or maybe i'll just wait for the interviewer to say it first.

It is pronounced both ways.

Forget the pronunciation. They didn't even spell it right!

Here is what Swarthmoor is named after: the country home of Thomas and Margaret Fell, built in the late 1500s. It is considered to be the birthplace of the Quaker movement in the 1650s.

actually they spelled it correctly: S-W-A-R-T-H-M-O-R-E

toffee: i've been using the first pronunication-whether it is correct or not i am not sure

i don't think you understand his comment, User_name.

p.s. your originality astounds me

haha, user_name is funny. anyways, thanks all.

oh! errrmmmmmmmm yeah just kidding.... well at least this is an internet forum, it could be worse

yeah, you can't see us laughing. :)

I have some friends who have lived in Swarthmore all their lives...according to them you pronounce the R.
