I started out at 650 with no prep. Then I bought John Chung’s SAT Math book and did around 30 sections. Now I am scoring around 710-750 ish. Somehow I always lose points to careless mistakes such as giving the answer for the length of the line segment DB instead of DC. How can I get rid of this bad habit and start scoring an 800?
Slow down. I also struggle with a tendency to speed through the math sections, but I have to make myself slow down to avoid those careless errors.
That’s a good point. I always finish with about 10 minutes remaining, but I don’t know which questions to double check…
As you work the questions, you can mark the ones which you thought were either very easy or very difficult. Those are the ones that might warrant checking.
Or, you can check every one, spending an average of ten seconds on each.
Subject test or the SAT 1?
I scored 800 twice on SAT 1 math. All you need to do is review Algebra 1 and Geometry material wise. On the actual test, try to spend 30-60 ish seconds per question, leaving at least 5 minutes in the end to check ALL of the questions. The correct way to check is not to redo the entire problem, but plug the answer back in to see if it is applicable. I didn’t use any other prep material besides the big blue book.
