I just got a trial pair and I want to burn down the office of the doctor I got them from. It freakin hurts to stab my eye over and over. Does anyone have an easy and painless way of getting these god forsaken things out of my eyes?

What kind do you have? I use Acuvue 1 Day, and all I have to do is rub my eyes. I love mine though. They only hurt if you put them in inside-out. There should be numbers on every contact and they should be in a certain order if you put them in correctly. For example, mine have “123” on the side (they don’t affect your vision), and when they’re inside-out it says “321.”

I just tilt my head down and pull on the outside corner of my eye (with my other hand underneath to catch the contact falling out). It comes out very easily the vast majority of the time.

(I have hard contacts, so I guess they’re smaller than soft lenses)

O.o maybe you need a new brand? Are the contacts dry? Make sure you don’t leave them in too long and your hands are clean. For me, it hurts when I touch my eye directly, I always only touch the contact. And never use your nails, ouch!
I take out my contacts just by taking the pads of my thumb and index finger and gently pinching it out. When I first started wearing them I had to look in the mirror and take the pad of my index finger, sliding down and then pinching it out with my thumb and index again. Sorry I can’t really explain properly how to take it contacts in words. Go search on YouTube how to properly put on and take out contacts or go back to the doctor to demonstrate how to put them on. You may just need to get used to them, I did.

I agree with the person above me . Plus when there’s a contact on my finger I can touch my eye all I want without even blinking (but if I there wasn’t a contact there I wouldn’t be able to) . I also have acuvue which stay good for two weeks.

I have bausch and lomb contacts and they’re fine for me. Is this your first time wearing contacts? I had a lot of trouble the first couple days too but it gets better. If it’s really hurting you then switch brands, there are many great ones like bausch and lomb and acuvue

Oh, it’s because you have hard lenses . Try and switch to soft even though they might be more expensive … You can always wear them longer then intended. I’ve kept the ones I have on for up to a month even though they only ‘last’ two weeks, I can’t even notice a difference.

It takes me about 3 seconds tops now.

Open eyelids and place index finger on contact.

Slide the contact down to the lower eyelid (it’s on the sclera at this point).

Pinch and remove.

Easy.

I just pinch and remove them straight out of my eye.

now that I think about it, i’m kind of mean to my contact lenses.

^^ same. index and thumb at the edge, pinch to the pupil, pull out (hehe).

proclear once-a-day’s are loverly

^ woo, i’m not alone!

mine are two-weekers, though…

It is my first time and I’m willing to try anything. Touching my eye makes me other one start seizing and it’s just so awkward to do it. I’m pretty positive they are soft lenses. I just hate messing with my eye, it’s making me want to tear up just thinking how long it took (like 30 friggin minutes).

OP, don’t worry, contacts are really intimidating in the beginning. When I first got mine I was so confused and frustrated with trying to get them out that I would have to take 30 min breaks between trying (which meant it took about 2 hrs the first few days and my eyes were tearing and red). I was young (but not that young) at the time and I remember crying because I was so angry. About a week later I got the swing of things, and by the next week I was removing them like a pro (and still am years later with almost instinctual accuracy). Just try a variety of methods, many of which are listed above, and have patience. I know your eyes hurt and it seems ridiculously hard, but soon it will be second nature. Good luck!

(and BTW, after you remove them/before bed be sure to use eye drops to give your eyes some relief from all that poking)

Yeah, the same thing happened to me, pretty much. I had to stay there putting them in and taking them out for 4 hours, until my eyes were red. Luckily the next day was a Sunday and I didn’t have to go anywhere fast, because it took me an hour to put them in.

By that Tuesday it was like old hat.

So practice, practice, practice. I never liked the sliding thing so I just put them on directly and pinch them out directly.

^ me too

When I first got contact lenses, my friends and a few teachers asked me if I got punched in the eye; that’s how bad it looked and how red my eye was. I had to get up an hour earlier (only for a few days, though) for school until I got used to them. I was about ready to just stick with my glasses. It took me about a month before I could put them in/take them out in under a minute. Four years later, I don’t even think about it when I do it.

Best way to put them in is to go to a really big mirror, look up a bit, pull down your lower eyelid, and then just aim the contact lens for the pupil.

Best way to take them out is to pull down your lower eyelid, take your finger and move the contact down a little bit with your finger and then pinch it between two fingers.

I also watched some YouTube tutorials (I know, right?) and it helped a bit. It mostly just takes practice, though. :p

When I first got contacts, I couldn’t put them in for an hour. I was very sensitive to touching my eye. But once I got it on my eye and knew how it felt, I was able to repeat that feeling over and over. Looking at a mirror helps me. I slowly insert them at the center of my eye and to take them out, I just pinch using my index and thumb. Don’t worry. After a while, it will somehow become natural.
