sooooooo, i just tried on my first pair today at the eye doctors, after working to put them in for, literally, almost an hour :| they hurt quite a bit at first so i took them out, asap, & my doctor said it was likely due to irritation. my question is, is it a bad idea to wear them to school tomorrow [obviously, 7+ hours]? the people who worked there said i should, but i'm scared that my eyes will start hurting after a couple of hours, in which case i would have to spend god knows how long in the bathroom trying to take them out. like, i could very well spend at least half a period in the bathroom, missing class. & how awkward would that be...i don't even know what my teacher would say, baha. god, today was so frustrating. i'm a blinker, apparently :[ haha, this whole thing just makes me very nervous.

Night time contacts are easier to handle and you don’t need them during the day. I wear them when I sleep and I have perfect vision the whole day. And they’re supposedly corrective too.

I couldn’t give you any advice on day time contacts, so I just thought I’d give you a little sales pitch.

When I first got my contacts, I wore them for about an hour the first day, 2 hours the next, 4 the next, etc. until I got used to it. You can safely wear disposable contacts for at least 9 hours (usually a lot more) before they start getting dry.

I’d say dont especially since you had problems with after only a couple of minutes. Build up to a school day with an extra two hours everyday. Also though, my eyes would get pretty irritated just from touching my eyes for an hour straight. Practice makes perfect!

i only wear my contacts for cosmetic purposes but i know what you mean. they can be truly irritating…you just need to get used to it. if all fails, glasses work too!

I got contacts for the first time around 6th grade. The first time I went to the eye doctor I could NOT put them in, let alone take them out! The people were very impatient and told me I just needed to wait a few months to try again. I’m a HUGE blinker. Well, after we waited a couple of months, I went to a new doctor. They were much more patient and let me try to put in the contacts my own personal way (ie. To this day, I have pry/hold my upper lid up with my left hand while putting them in).

Okay, so I finally put them in and got to go home with them. I FREAKED out taking them out that night. I literally could not do it. My mom had to take them out for me the first week.

You just have to make yourself do it, take a deep breath, and just take it out. Practice touching your eye and moving the contact around a little.

Personally, I would not wear them to school if you think your eyes might get irritated, and you’ll have to take them out. Mine never got dry or irritated until about 2/3 years after wearing them 8-10 hours a day/7 days a week. Now I’m a Junior, and they are a pain in the butt. My eyes are dry a lot, and I have to let them recover by wearing my glasses most of the weekend. I used to be petrified of Lasik surgery, but I’m getting it now as soon as I turn 18.

Ha, sorry for the novel. Hope that makes you feel better.

there are the disposable, day-time kind. &, yeah, i got glasses when i was younger & have been progressively wearing them for longer time periods in a day, which has just been really annoying me lately, so i wanted to try contacts.

haha, kbg, u remind me of myself except i’m about 5 years older than u were at the time, lol yeah, i freaked out about having to take them out too, but it happened sort of quickly, tg. i can only pray that i’ll get better with practice :

YES, i want lasik surgery so badly when i’m older. the only problem is i have no idea how i’ll keep from blinking…large contraption attached to my eye-lids, or not.

fairy_dreams–i was actually all ready to ask my eye doctor about the night-time lenses i had read about a while back, but then he started talking a lot & i got so excited that i completely forgot, lol. but i think i will definitely ask about it when this trial pair i have runs up. they actually sound pretty perfect. have any complaints? the worst part would probably be when your vision starts to fade by night-time D:

edit:i guess i will work up to putting them in for school, in like u all suggested. i don’t want an emotional breakdown to go down in the middle of the day tomorrow, haha. i’ll practice over the weekend :]
