You take the math online prior to orientation. You take language at orientation. If you don’t take math online, then you have the oppportunity to take it at orientation.

Unless you earned college credit for either foreign language or math while in high school.

The most popular languages have testing at orientation (spanish, german, french, italian, latin, etc). But less popular languages like sign language and russian have to test through the department.

wait, what is all this testing? Do you have to take these to get credit for things like AP or community college credits? Do you have to take these regardless? What are these?

If you have transfer credit or AP credit then that should count. Same for any course - math, history, English, etc. But my understanding is you still have to sit the placement exams.

For foreign language you will be required to take a language placement examination. If you place into the 102 level you will receive credit for 101 (beginning course). If you place 103 level you should receive credit for 101 and 102 .

I had enough transfer credit for 101 and 102 but tested into 102. Foreign Language seemed harder for me than the institution where I took it.

“But my understanding is you still have to sit the placement exams.”

Sit as in take or sit as in sit through while others take them? How long do they take and are they things I should study for? What is on them? When do you take them?

Sit = take the examination. Geez.

I don’t recall how long the exam takes. I sat out while others took the exam. Maybe an hour or so.

I took my placement exam in the Russian dept. I tested into 102+ despite two years of Russian in high school and year at college level.

Don’t expect it to be easy.

haha, hi I think this website is more useful :)
