How do you transfer to CAS to Wharton?

I haven't been the strongest in math, but I want to double major in Global Analysis and International Relations at UPENN, but I'm applying as IR major. Is it really hard to transfer to Wharton? All you need is 3.8 GPA right?

I hear it’s really difficult because UPenn wants to avoid “Wharton backdoor” students. I’m sure it’s possible though if you really push.

Thanks!! The first hurdle is getting in!

That will be the hardest 3.8 you will ever have attempted to get. You may be the #1 in your school, but you will be competing against 6,400 other #1s to get good grades. The admissions officer who visited my school said that 35 students transfer from CAS to Wharton a year.

They have changed the process so now instead of being based solely on gpa, it is based on course rigor and essays as well. I know a few people doing dual degrees with Wharton who got accepted this summer, all very hardworking, intelligent students. Getting a high gpa here requires a lot more than in high school. You have to have good study habits and a good aptitude for the subject, although I would say study habits and time management are more important. Also, you should make sure you have a balanced schedule and try not to overload since that makes it much harder to do well. Also remember its not about studying for the longest amount of time, it’s about studying smart and being flexible i.e. trying different approaches when you don’t have success. Persistence is very important not just here but for everything.

Wow should you be taking a lot of classes at Wharton or just pursue IR and apply? Thanks for your feedback by the way

If you want to go to Wharton, just apply to Wharton

Search is your friend!

Here is the Wharton Undergrad base page for internal transfers and dual degrees:
[Internal Transfer and Dual Degree: Overview](http://spike.wharton.upenn.edu/ugrprogram/advising/internaltransfer_dualdegree/index.cfm)

Notably, the minimum GPA requirement is 3.40, and there is a list of prerequisite classes that must be taken. There are also 4 short essays in the application.

My feeling is that the dual-degree process is as challenging as applying directly to the program from high school.

Thanks! I appreciate it.
