Hello. I just joined this site and will be starting college in the fall. I was wondering, how does everyone choose what classes to take first and in what order and such? I'm having a hard time decided if I should take certain classes first and what those should be?

Does anyone have a system that they use that works well for them? Thank you in advance! :)

Choosing classes, some questions: Do you have a major picked out? What general ed classes do you have to take that aren’t fulfilled by AP/IB, etc. credits?

Part of it is getting advice from your advisor, part of it is getting advice from friends, part of it is getting advice from the internet and part of it is just picking a combination of classes and going for it.

Most people take the ‘basic’ classes. They’re easy to find and generally listed at the 100 level level, or with a 1 following the name, like General Chemistry 1, Botany 100, etc.

It’s good to have a nice, solid schedule picked out, but never get your hopes set on that schedule. When I was a freshman choosing courses, they had all the upperclassmen choose their courses first (they chose their courses while incoming freshman were still in HS haha) which resulted in us not getting all of our first choices. Actually, there was this English class I really wanted to take, but couldn’t because it was filled.

If I were you, I’d just make 3 different sets of courses just in case the ones you picked are filled.

Your advisor should tell you what classes are best to start with for your major (what is it?). They should also tell you other classes in case the first ones are full / time-conflicting.

Always make a back-up schedule in case your classes are full.
