How does Amherst treat Internationals?

Hey,

Well i am thinking of maybe applying to a LAC or two… maybe Amherst and Williams. I was wondering how these top LACs-especially Amherst- treat Internationals in the admissions process. I put myself in a relatively small group because i do not require any sort of Financial Aid. I am the typical decent applicant… good but not jaw dropping…~2150 SATs …3.75 UW all IB Courses… 400 + Volunteering Hours…three leadership positions… you get the bit. Just wondering if Amherst/top LACs look favourably upon Internationals and especially those who do not require aid. Btw, i am from Canada and i am South Asian. So what do you think? Thanks

PS:Totally separate question but my friend said that people at LACs tend to be more unfriendly to minority races. Is this true? I would think its completely opposite. Thanks guys!

Amherst is going need blind for internationals, so not needing aid won't benefit you at all.

I'm not sure where your friend is getting his information, but in my experience at Amherst and elsewhere, your friend is totally incorrect.

Why Amherst and Williams in particular?

Amherst is need-blind toward international candidates. I've only been on campus for a week, and I've already observed that there is a large international population, and that everyone in general is quite friendly.

If you are looking for other excellent LACs that are particularly eager to accept international students, Middlebury is a safe bet.

ah i see.. thanks a lot for the insight. more comments are appreciated

Macalester in ST. Minnesota is very big on recruiting internationals, and is a great LAC, too.

Sorry -- typo -- that should be St. Paul, Minnesota.

Take a look at Brandeis and Oberlin for their receptivity to international students.

Williams is currently need blind to internationals and has been for a while.

Is there any other LAC's besides Middlebury, Amherst and Williams that are need-blind for international applicants? I remember there is one more...
