Have any international students from CC gotten into Amherst (with a good scholarship)? I’m thinking of applying next year, but I would like to get some idea of how hard it is for international students to get in and how good the financial aid packages are.

Thanks!

I know that Amherst is need-blind for Canadians, and it's working to be need-blind for all internationals. There are no "scholarships," but if you qualify for financial aid and the FinAid office may give you a school "scholarship" (FinAid paid for by the school rather than the government.) For internationals it usually gives loans.

i know 2 people got in from CC (internationals) with good fin aid.

Hi greendayfan,
I'm an international on a scholarship here at Amherst (originally from Romania). There is another international on CC, he goes by frolik. As far as chances go, I can tell you that over 700 internationals applied to Amherst this year, and about 10% of them will get acceptances. You need to be a strong applicant just to get some consideration here, but getting in is possible.
As about financial aid, it's mostly grants and not loans, as tansytroll suggests. The school is very generous, although it does require your family to pay something. Indeed, Amherst is considering becoming need-blind, but there is no clear resolution on this yet.

Here's what the Amherst Committee on Academic Priorities says in its latest report:
"4. We recommend that admission for non-US students be made need-blind.

Broader inclusion of international students and less affluent students inevitably puts pressure on the limited number of places in entering classes. We emphasize that this further diversity should not come at the expense of any of our valued constituencies, array of interests, or racial, ethnic, or cultural diversity. A modest increase in the size of the student body can comfortably be accommodated by existing facilities and by the expansion of the faculty recommended in this report. "
