How does AP credit work at UM?

Yes, I checked the site, but I'm still a bit confused and my AP Chem teacher advised me to ask actual students.

AP Chem is sucking my lifeforce away. I know struggling is inherent in AP classes, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth it (I'm also taking AP English and Psych and those are challenging in an enjoyable way, not in a way that makes me want to drink strychanine). At the beginning of the year I was not entirely sure which career path I wanted to pursue. Now I know that I'm going into english and psych, so chem is not exactly relevant anymore. My question is, if I stay in the class and do well on the AP exam will I even be able to apply the credit at UM if I don't do anything remotely related to it in college? The idea of dropping it is so tempting, but I hate giving up on things... at this point I'm just trying to consider my options and their consequences. Any advice is appreciated!

You can recieve credit in one of 2 ways: By either passing the ap chem test or by passing the chem placement exam during orientation. The credits will be applied toward your overall amount you need toward graduation.

Credit from AP classes can only place you into a higher class or count towards the 120 necessary for graduation. You can't use them towards distribution. Given you've decided to not pursue chemistry, you probably won't be taking Organic Chemistry. Unless you're planning on trying to graduate early and won't have terribly many transfer/AP credits, then the 5 credits you'd get from AP chemistry won't make much of a difference.
