Hi everyone:

I was wondering if BU considers legacy status in admissions. If so, how much?

Thanks! :-)

Come on, anyone? Fifty-three views and no responses?

Yes, very much so. Almost every school does.

Am I considered a legacy if my cousin attends BU? They have a spot on the application that asks if you have any family attending the university and although cousin isn't one of the options, "other" is.

I do not know about BU and cousins. DS is a BU grad. His great grandmother was a BU grad....but we didn't even put it on the application. I don't think that cousins are considered in the "legacy" category...but I could be wrong.

Cousin is definitely not legacy. Aunts and uncles are not either. Trust me, I tried that with some applications and was told that a cousin or aunt/uncle don't count. Legacies pretty much solely applies to parents going to the school the student is applying to

Just an FYI if you ARE a true legacy... In addition to the 1/2 tuition University Scholarship my son was awarded, he also received a "Legacy Scholarship" of $1,000 per year for all four years, just because my husband graduated from BU. That was a nice surprise. :)

im looking to transfer and one of the schools im looking at is BU. My high school grades are garbage(about a 2.8 GPA at a private school) but I'm working really hard at my first semester in college(about a 3.7-4.0 at a small liberal arts school). My mom actually transferred to BU a while back which is the same I'm trying to do. Is there less legacy there because she was a transfer?

As long as her degree is from BU, then the legacy can certainly be factored into your decision
