I know this might seem like a 'dumb' question but what does the number wrong on your score report mean?

For example, on my last sat score report, it says the following:

Score: 710

Number Right: 49, Number Wrong: 5, Number Omitted: 0, Total Number of Questions: 54, Raw Score: 49

So what does this mean? Did I get 5 wrong or did I get 4 wrong (4*1.25=5 off raw score)? If its 5 wrong then why didn't i get the penalty, or is the penalty taken into account in the raw score??

u got 49 points. 5 wrong means u did not get points for those questions that u missed. heres where the sat differs from the normal school tests. in school, it would be 49/54 which is like near 90%.

on sat, they give negative points for wrong answers. which means that 5/4 = 1.25 points off. so 49-1.25 = 47.75. that is ur raw score but they round that up so ur raw is 48. then they have a curve for the test and based on that, u get a scaled score of 200-800

was urs math or CR or writing

Math. And I got 49 as my raw score (and i don't think 1 missed 3 on the fill-ins), not 48--according to CB.

Same thing happened when I missed 7 questions on the Jun 06 exam, I got 47/54 (ie no penalty--at least i think not)

i see....then that's good!!
I havent taken the test yet, but it's good to see how it all functions..
