How does credits work??

How the does credits in community colleges work? If i want to transfer out by a year, how many would i need? And if i want to major in business or economics what are the recommended classes should i take? I know i have too many questions but i’d really like them to be answered so please help me out!!

Much will depend upon the transfer requirements for the schools you plan to apply for transfer. Some schools will have a minimum credit limit you need to meet before transferring along with required courses. You need to check the transfer requirements for all the schools of interest. Usually 1 hour of class= 1 credit. So a 4 unit course= 4 credits= 4 hours. Check with an advisor at your community college and they will have the course requirements needed to transfer. What is your home state? Which schools are you targeting for transfer?

In the first two years of a four-year business program, a typical business student would take micro and macroeconomics, statistics, business calculus, accounting 1 and 2, marketing, business law, and a management course. Additionally, a business student would need general education classes (typically 9 credits in humanities, 6 additional credits of social science, 4-6 credits of natural science, and other electives). The bulk of the business courses will be taken in your third and fourth years of college.

@Gumbymom Thank you so much for the response! I’m from South Korea and i plan to enroll in foothill or De Anza 2016 spring semester. I know as a international student i’m at a huge disadvantage but i’d really like to attend Columbia. Other schools I’d like to try for are Stanford, UC Berkeley and Cornell. I’ve checked columbia’s site and if i’m not wrong the minimum requirement is 24credits.
