How does financial aid work for summer classes

Next summer, I'm planning to take a couple of summer courses at my local community college and I was wondering how financial aid work during the summer. Will they take some of my pell grant money from my next academic year to cover my summer courses?

It depends on your school. Schools treat summer either as part of the preceding year or part of the following year, depending on their policy.

If your school treats summer as part of the preceding year, then the only pell you would get in the summer is any you did not utilize during the regular year. For instance if you only attended the Spring semester, or were part time in one of the regular semesters.

If the school treats summer as part of the following year, then any Pell would be taken out of your aid eligibility for the year, reducing the Pell available to you form the rest of the year.

There is no extra summer pell. There was for a couple of summers a couple of years ago, but they discontinued that.

Summer can be more expensive because the courses may not be subsidized by the state as with my daughters instate university.
Smaller class sizes though.
