Hey guys, I was just wondering how Michigan does its GPA recalculation. Also, does Michigan factor in freshman grades? I’ve heard from some people that they do and others that they don’t. If so, how much weight is placed on these grades, especially in light of a steep upwards trend? My freshman grades really brought me down, but I finished Junior year strong with a 4.0 GPA for that year.
Thanks!
Yes Michigan does consider freshmen grades in calculation I believe. A is 4.0 b is 3.0 and so on they take off the + and -
This actually benefits most UM admits who tend to have a lot of A and A- grades.

Are you telling that if you have two students from the same school with the same classes and one has all A’s and the other has all A-'s, U-M will treat their GPA’s equally? Before AP/honors weighting at my school, that would be a 4.0 vs. 3.67. I would find it hard to believe that any admissions person would treat those two GPA’s equally.
File that under “it is what it is.” Michigan is not the only college that does this. Whether the AO in reviewing transcripts from the same HS does some mental recalculation is a different question.
They still look at what classes you got the grades in its not just a gpa and very few ppl have straight a- that’s pretty risky
