My daughter, hopefully, will be living in Forbes in the Fall (new, incoming SPACE students will be housed there). How does move-in work at Forbes? Where do parents park to unload stuff? Thanks!

My son is living there this year. Move in was surprisingly smooth - mostly I think because we got there first thing in the morning. Later in the day there were huge lines for the elevators.

People parked on the street in front, and around back.

We stayed across the street at the Wyndham which turned out to be very convenient. We had the valet pull the car to the lot across the street (directly across from the Wyndham) and used the cart they gave us to take our stuff from the car across the street to the dorm. Was quick and easy and didn’t have to fight the traffic on Forbes.

It was VERY smooth. My daugther was assigned the second day for move-in. I believe the earliest time you could move in was 8:00 am. It seemed like those from out of town moved in the first day and local students the second day. My daughter’s roommate had moved in the day before. We arrived around 7:45, parked in the rear of Forbes, and we were immediately given a cart to unload our vehicle. My daughter went up to the room first, to let the roommate know we were there - and make sure that she was ready for us to enter the room. By the time our daughter came back down, we had the first load ready. We literally had her moved in and unpacked in an hour. I was at work by 10:00 am! The great thing about Forbes is that you can exit Oakland before hitting the traffic at the Towers move-in. My advice? The earlier you can get there, the better. We hit absolutely no traffic moving in first thing in the morning.

I would second what Pittsmom says - get there early!!! D1’s move into Forbes in 2008 ran that smoothly as well. In her case she was able to move in much earlier than the majority of Pitt kids since the UHC had a more-extensive orientation that started three days before the rest of the freshmen. Speaking as a parent, I really miss Forbes, there was usually a parking space open on Forbes Blvd, and it was a quick in-and-out from Oakland.
