So I’m currently a Junior in high school and I was wondering if anyone had any comments on my schedule this year, good, bad, suggestions, etc.?
1st Period: Small Animal Science
2nd Period: Spanish III
3rd Period: AP Language and Composition
4th Period: AP US History (online)
5th Period: Chemistry I
6th Period: Pre-AP Algebra II
7th Period: AP Psychology
I originally signed up for Floriculture and Anatomy, but due to schedule conflicts with APs I couldn’t get either.
Also looking ahead to senior year (there’s no guarantee these classes won’t conflict) I’m looking at my course options and asking for suggestions on here.
Possible APs: AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Literature & Comp., AP Music Theory (eh), AP Human Geography, (AP Environmental Science (if offered), AP Spanish Lang. (if offered), AP Statistics
My Senior year I’m required to take a math class and an English class. These are the potential 7 classes I’m looking at, but if anyone has suggestions let me know.
1: AP Chemistry
2: Pre Calculus
3: AP Literature & Comp.
4: AP Biology
5: AP Statistics (if they let me double up on math)
6: Either Vet Science or Orchard Tech
7: Elective (not really sure, might try something like a business class)
4/10. It’s fine, APUSH and AP Lang will be pretty intensive but your other classes shouldn’t have too much work (AP Psych should be fun, it’s pretty easy at my school).
6/10 for senior year. AP Chem, Bio, Lit and (Stat?) are time consuming, especially doubling up on a science. Lit is a lot of reading, along with Bio (memorization) and Chem is a lot of work. Stats is an “off track” math, more reading than actual problem solving. Overall it should be OK.
Your schedule for junior year looks fine. Is this going to be your first year taking AP classes? I think that your schedule looks rigorous enough without being impossible. It’ll take some time getting used to the AP classes (especially if you’ve never taken an AP before), so I think your schedule looks balanced. Is your Spanish 3 class a regular class, or is it an Honors class? At my high school, Spanish 3 was Honors. APUSH was a lot of time and effort, but since you’re taking the class online, I don’t know what it will be like. AP Lang and Comp involves a lot of reading and writing (obviously). As long as you stay on top of your assignments, you won’t have any trouble. Is Pre-AP Algebra II similar to an Honors class? Is it possible for you to take Chemistry at an Honors level?
For senior year, I think your schedule looks more rigorous than junior year. Colleges don’t like it when students slack off senior year, so I think you’ll look great. I think it’s really impressive that you’re going to take both AP Biology and AP Chemistry in the same year. That is going to take a lot of time and effort, though. AP Statistics is one of the easier AP classes available. Can you take Pre Calculus in an Honors level? Do you have to take Pre Calculus or can you just skip to AP Statistics? You’ll already know what to expect (in a way) for AP Lit, thanks for AP Lang. (They aren’t the same, but they are both AP English classes.)
Can you fill up your elective in senior year with another Spanish class? I know that most colleges only require 2 or 3 years of foreign language, but taking another year of Spanish will look impressive. I would either fill your elective with another year of foreign language or AP Environmental Science. AP Environmental Science isn’t (from what I’ve heard) a difficult class. Are you planning on majoring in per-veterinary or animal science? If so, then I would take APES instead of another year of Spanish. Depending on the colleges you’re thinking of applying to, having a rigorous course load will definitely help. Will you have had enough social sciences and history classes in order to meet any potential college requirements?
I’ve taken an AP class before, AP World History last year (no one in my class passed it though because we didn’t have a teacher for 4 months). Spanish 3 is only called a normal class, but all the staff classify it as an advanced course; also at the end of the year the teacher is going to have us take a state test that will consider us as “certified” in Spanish for college apps, etc. Pre-AP and Honors are basically the same, my school just calls it Pre-AP. Chemistry I is my only option for Chemistry, there are no Honors/Pre-AP sciences at my school since it’s fairly new, we don’t even have AP Physics yet. This year is the first year Spanish 3 was offered, so I’m not sure if another year (Spanish 4 or AP Spanish) will be an option, I’ll have to wait till the end of the year. I’m planning to go into pre pharmacy at a state university, so that’s why AP Bio and Chem are musts for me. My school won’t allow me to take AP Bio or Chem until I pass the non-AP versions first.
For my course requirements (other than my 2 required courses English and math senior year) I have all my history/social sciences I need for college and to graduate. Human Geo, World History, and US History are my 3 history credits I need (all will be taken care of this year with US), science is Intro Physics, Biology, and Chemistry (again all taken care of this year), math is Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and an elective (math) senior year; the same concept goes for English. I’ll put previous schedules below just to clarify and all that. I want to skip to AP Calc AB but I don’t have much of a way to. Thanks for the help though. Unless something else better is offered I’ll probably take a fourth year of Spanish. The reason I’m in ag classes as well is because I need them to remain in FFA, which will look good for colleges and GSP.
