How does parking work at the UCLA/Berkeley dorms and apartments? Can we bring cars?

for ucla it will be pretty hard to get a permit if you don’t work off campus (has to be far enough so that you can’t take the bus) or something significant that will require you to be away from campus.

not sure about berkeley, but from visiting the campus a few times , it seems like parking is not as bad.

I’m not sure what parking is like as a student at berkeley, but from growing up there, it makes life a lot easier to have a car, though public transportation is decent. parking around cal (and throughout berkeley, to be honest) can be a bit of a nightmare, so expect to pay through the roof for some type of parking spot or parking permit. I would bring a car if you don’t mind the cost of parking, etc.

^ so, if you live off campus, you have to pay to park your car in front of your house/apartment?

I wonder what percentage of UCLA undergrads have a car on campus.

I believe UCLA uses a lottery system for parking.

"Student parking is assigned based on a need-based point system that considers class standing, employment and academic obligations, commute distance and other factors when granting permits. You must meet published deadline dates when both applying and paying for a permit. If your parking permit request is denied, you can appeal the decision through a formal process with its own deadline.

Students can apply for one of two general types of permits: a ridesharing permit (Carpool Parking Permit) or a non-ridesharing permit (Residence Hall or Commuter Permit). Note: If you are a student living in a UCLA Residence Hall you must show proof of an off-campus job to obtain a permit."

[Student Permits (1000354)](http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/1000354)

So it looks like if you stay at the dorms, you must have an off campus job and even then it’s no guarantee. Are there any alternatives nearby? Maybe some hotels that can rent out a parking spot that are within 20mins walking distance?

^ curious if there’s parking nearby as well

read on here a year ago that someone got a space at a church for 100 a month , the only bad thing was that they had to move their car at 7/8am each and every sunday and also every other religious day where people flock to church.

I wonder which church that is, I would like to contact them.
