How does Programming look on apps?

I'm a rising sophomore, and while scheduling classes for next year, I decided to drop Spanish (I've finished Spanish 1, 2, and 3), and will be replacing that slot on my schedule with computer programming courses in Java and Python.

I'm looking to major in some form of engineering, so I've been told the swap will boost my admissions profile, but I wanted some insight from CC.

Thoughts?

Take Spanish IV.

What you might learn in a java programming course you just as easily study yourself.

But learning Spanish, especially in today’s society, is becoming essential. (and it looks better on apps)

Spanish you’ll use throughout your lifetime.

One hs level programming course might cover 10-20% of a college course?

There are things you’re expected to do in HS is you’re trying for highly selective colleges. AP language is one, programming is not. It’s a great plus after the basics.
