I’m currently a senior and hoping to major in either finance or accounting. How do SFSU’s Business programs compare to the other CSUs and some other California Universities in terms of business programs?
From my knowledge, does not come close. Maybe comparable to CSU’s, as SF firms are more likely to hire SFSU grads than CSUs if your aim is to stay in SF, but does not come close to UCB’s business program, UCLA’s managerial econ, or even UC Irvine’s business. SFSU is not in anyone’s target list in recruiting, but it is important to consider what time of finance you wish to do. A better yet comparable experience is Santa Clara U, as they are recruited in Silicon valley heavy despite not being prestigious in overall rank besides west coast universities.
My bad, I meant like lower tier UCs such as UC riverside, merced, etc. Obviously Berkeley and other top tier UCs are much superior lol. How is SFSU compared to other CSUs, as I only have real chances to get accepted at CSUs.
SF is a solid school and its biz program has a solid reputation, especially in the Bay Area. It is a commuter school and lacks some of the traditional residential college experience.like D1 sports, a big Greek population, a college town environment where everyone living near campus is a student. Those things are a big deal for some and not even a consideration for others. They do have access to internships and per time jobs in the nations hottest job market.
I’d place its biz program as mid-pack among CSUs. Akin to Sac, San Jose and Northridge. IMHO, the top 5 are CPSLO, SDSU, CSULB, Chico and CPP - though that is highly subjective. Also note there are some specialty programs at places like Sonoma (wine biz), Bakersfield (oil biz) and Fresno (ag biz) that make them unique.
Good luck
@NCalRent So Chico>SJSU business? Chico has a bad rep at my HS for just being a party school where you go to fail lmao
as i said, any ranking is highly subjective. SJ also has a good program. No question there are parties at Chico but, you could say that of any college of any size. It is much smaller school than SJ or SF and has a real ‘college town’ feel, which you won’t find at many other CSUs. Just about all of the students live within a few miles of campus, which can make for a lively weekend environment - but that isn’t a bad thing when you are 19-23, especially when everyone is a student. Most students at Sac, SF, SJ and the other urban campuses commute to their family, often 30 miles or more from campus, which means they leave after class. Neither is bad per-se but, you’ll probably find one more appealing than the other.
My son graduated with a finance degree last year and loved it.
You should spend some on and around the campuses of several schools to see what you like. My guess is your peers have never been to Chico. Check it out before coming to your own conclusion.
i should add, Chico is more selective than most people think. Not UCLA competitive but, you need around a 3.2 and 1150 to be competitive.
