I recieved a very LOW amount of scholarship money compared to some of the other people that got into SAIC at my school (this ruined most of my confidence) and I was wondering how they decide to give the scholarship. What is it based on?

What is SAIC? Is that School of Art Institute of Chicago or what?

If it is the Art Institute, is the scholarship based on your portfolio? What did others get?

You’ll get a better response. Don’t feel bad. my D got ZERO in merit from MCAD. Did the same thing to her confidence. I’d love to know how many kids got it and how much the average award was.

I could be wrong, but I’ve been told that many of these art/design/etc schools don’t have big endowments in order to give very many large awards.

That’s right, and some schools are known for more aid than others. It’s different because no only do you have to comptete using grades, test scores, EC’s and recommendations, you also have to submit your art work. When you don’t get any money or very little, you wonder about the strength of your talent, when maybe they just didn’t have a lot to give out that year.

^^^

Yes, and that’s why some kids have to find regular universities with good art/design/etc depts.

Yep, and that’s a hard thing to find when you’re a hard core art kid that’s not interested in a big student body/party/ rah-rah football school.

^^^

I understand. But, if money is an issue, and that’s the only affordable route, a student many have to take it.

BTW…a serious student who isn’t a “party/rah rah” type can still find his niche in a big school. Not every student is a partier and not every student is into sports. My kids go to a “party school,” but they are science and engineering majors. They aren’t party-types at all. They have many friends who aren’t the party types. My older son didn’t care about football before, but he does enjoy going to the games.

I imagine that in art depts as well as others, there are many students who don’t care for those things.

My daughter just got her merit amount from SAIC. she got 10,500 a year and 13,500 her senior year. I was thinking it would be more. Not sure how this ranks. We were expecting more. She bascially got the same grand total from SCAD. Thoughts on what your child got?

Hello,

Im curious about when and how SAIC gave you an answer regarding merit scholarship.
Do I need to fill out anything?

Hi, When did you receive the merit scholarship from SAIC? is it email or mail?
We are still waiting for…
Does it mean we did not get ?

My son got the same amount, was hoping for more, but this is more than any of the other schools he got into…SCAD,Pratt & MCAD. where else did your Daughter apply

They just sent me mine in the mail, I wasn’t expecting it or even knew about it until I got it and when I heard what the others got I almost threw up on myself.
