How does this look from the UCs?

So I'm currently finishing up my second semester/freshman year at my local community college. With the AP scores I recieved in H.S., the three years of Spanish in H.S., and the classes I took in the Fall and am taking now in the Spring, I will have about 50 transferable units (49.6 to be exact) completed by the end of Spring semester. Also, I will have completed IGETC by the end of this Spring.

I have four more classes to take for my major prep for transfer to UCI in Psychology & Social Behavior, or Human Development at a local CSU. These four major prep classes add up to 13 units. I have two more semesters at the community college. I am thinking of taking a Health class and a Poli Sci class (together, another 7 units, but I can take the Health class online [no biggie]) in order to get a general "University Studies with Emphasis on Social Science" AA degree. What I'm asking is, how would it look to the UC's (well, I guess just UCI) if I took "fun" classes in my last two semesters? I've been taking 16 units each semester I have been in my community college so far so I understand the workload. I can take quite a few "fun" classes with even 10 extra units (15 units/semester).

I've done the work, so is it okay to, I suppose, take it a little easier these last two semesters? Are they okay with this?

BTW, my GPA is about 3.5 and I expect it to stay that way/probably get higher by the end of my very last semester at CC. I'm also involved in an active Environmental club and Phi Theta Kappa club.

Any opinion would be helpful! Thanks!

Not sure about your question but I have one.

Are you saying that the 3 years of spanish that you took at your high school count towards your number of transferring units to UC? I thought that they were only looked at by IGETC verification staff to verify the foreign language requirement. Yes…No?

No, they don’t count as transferring units, but they do count towards completement of IGETC. Sorry for the confusion!

Oh okay good. Thanks for clearing that up because if true, that would definitely lower my GPA.

No problem :).

Yeah, I’m pretty sure they don’t care. I finished my 90 quarter units after winter quarter and put on my application that I wouldn’t be taking anything during spring quarter. Every counselor or UC admissions person says that it doesn’t matter what you take in the last quarter/semester as long as you have your 60semester/90quarter units completed.

Okay, sweet! Thanks MantisTobaggan! (:
