how does this look?

Ok, I am a sophomore at a Catholic school in Massachusetts (however I'm not religious, fyi). I am taking the most difficult schedule possible(5 honors).
also this year we got a new grading system.
last year
B+=87-89, A=90-94, A+=95+.,etc.
This year
A-=90-92,A=93-96,A+=97+.,etc.

Freshman:
religion1: A+
honors english:A
honors algebra2: A
honors biology: B+
world history1: A+
honors french2: A
intro to art: A
comp app: A
Ranked: approximately #10
gpa: 4.07 (4.5 scale)

Sophomore(1st quarter):
religion2: A+
honors english:A-
honors geometry: A-
honors chemistry: A-
honors world history: A-
honors french3: A
4.05 (4.5 scale)

EC's: MUN, interact club(comm serv), peer leaders, student ambassadors, nhs, literary mag., amnesty international, teen staff writer for city-wide newspaper, bag boy at grocery store (about 10-15 h/wk)

generally good at stand. tests.

i know this is annoying but help a kid out, tell me if you yhink id even have a shot, thanks.

so far you're on a good track. my advice is that you should make sure to:
-keep up with your schools most rigorous available classes, as many ap's as you can
-get officer positions in the clubs you really care about
-expand beyond the clubs that are your favorite, I see you did that with the city-wide newspaper, do it even more if you can
-throw in some more community service, something that you give a solid hourly commitment (whenever you see a chances thread where someone has 200+ hours for a specific organization everyone points it out as a big plus, so if you have this and keep up everything else you're doing you'll have an extra boost)

other than that just keep up your grades, so far you've been doing a pretty good job.
hope this was helpful

stop worrying about college. You've got two years. Don't even come on this site until late in your junior year.

to stu64k: thanks. yeah my school has a comm. service requirement so i do do that, i only have like 10 hours but im gonna be doing a lot more this year. also, i just started the newspaper thing and ill be doing it until i go to college most likely:D.
to downtown128: No.

GreenDayFan -- I was just like you when I was a sophomore. I'm a senior this year, and I can honestly say over the past few years I've wasted more time on this site than I care to say. You really should just get out and enjoy the time you have left in high school -- it'll be over really, really quickly. Keep up the good work with your grades and ECs and don't obsess about this site too much. Nobody here really has an "in" with the admissions committees, so we really can't tell you whether you're going to be accepted or not.
I know that me saying this is not going to change your mind at all (it wouldn't've changed mine when I was your age) but really, don't let worrying about college become your entire life. Do things because you love them, not because you want to get into a good school, and I guarantee you that your passion for them will shine through on your application. Then in the latter half of your junior year, come back here and obsess away. These CC kids make pretty good company for that :)

trust me i barely have time to be on here, i post maybe once or twice on a school day. i have a social life actually and i go to all my school dances and hang out with my friends after school before i do my homework. chill, i just want to know how im doing. i know you think you're telling me something i havent heard but every fricken upperclassman on this site tells me this when i say im a sophomore. it gets old.

No need to snap at me. And I don't doubt that you have an active social life (I do too, and so do many of my friends who post here). You're doing fine. So don't worry about it yet.

thank you. and i didnt snap at you. :D i was just explaing that it can hardly be said that im wasting time on here when im barely ever on here in the first place. and you can understand my frustration when anytime i ask for guidance some senior feels the need to tell me to get off the website so i can keep my sanity. trust me, if anything is taking away my sanity its my hours of homework, my job, and all my responsibilities, not the 10 minutes i spend on here a week. Thank you for the responses everyone.

just to let you know, they don't look at the gpa that you calculate, bc they don't even ask for it. they calculate in their own way, with ONLY core classes- science, history, english, math, and language- so i would try to concentrate on those for the next two years (but you seem to not have to worry about that- you are doing really well!) And remember that colleges like to see an upward trend in the grades. In other words, you have really great grades right now, but when you start taking harder classes like APs or IBs, they will expect the same grades (with maybe a SLIGHT dip).

Also remember that you are from Massachusetts, so you have a lot more competition to worry about. Not as many as, say, from New York, but I still believe that Massachusetts is probably one of the state that submit the most applicants (but I could be wrong).

Lastly, stay active in your ecs! And try to get leadership positions while you are at it. For instance, try to get promoted from being a bag boy to a cashier- that will show that you are a hard worker. Try getting other leadership positions like pres of NHS or secretary-general of MUN (if that's available- i wouldn't know, seeing as they don't offer it at my school).

But you are off to a great start. But seriously, don't spend too much time on here, because it can really get you freaked out. I am a notorious freaker-outer, and so when i see all the great resumes that everybody else has, it seriously drives me insane. So, for you own sanity, come on to this website maybe once a week, but it would be better if it were once every two weeks.

All the best of luck!

great start. just keep it up. incidentally, my school has your new grading system too, except we've always had it :)
