On a scale of 1-10 of difficulty, how would this schedule for next autumn be like?

AMATH301 Beginning Scientific Computing
MATH 126 Calculus 3
PHYS121 Mechanics
GERM101 Intro to German

Thanks!

Are you a transfer student?
Are you working?
Did you take physics in high school, what about German?

If you’re not working, it’s possible. That said, learning a new language and physics for the first time during the same quarter will take diligence.

AMATH301 + MATH126 = good idea.
Dificulty scale:
If you’ve been introduced to all of these concepts = 7 or 8
If you’re fresh to these classes, and working = 10 - impossible (if you want good grades).

Good luck! Maybe I’ll catch you in AMATH301 in the Fall! :)

Transferring as a running start student in the fall! Not working, thankfully. My exposure to physics was poor, no significant exposure to German. I will probably end up bagging the German class. I just wanted to throw something a little more fun into the mix. Thanks!

I’ve done 3 years of German. Of course, this was at a HS level, but German as a whole is fairly easy. It’s really similar to English in a lot of ways. At very least, it’s not as hard as learning, say, Mandarin.

Hi, was wondering whether anyone has anything to comment/advice on my schedule for this fall:

Do you think I can manage the overall course load?

Cxavier -
I think that depends on your background. Personally, I think this looks like an awesome “transitioning to UW” schedule. Be prepared for MATH126, I hear their system is unique - I believe they use MATLAB or a similar program which is not used in surrounding CC’s or high schools.
Good luck!

How is Gianna Craig as an Eng 111 professor?

Cxavier: It’s definitely doable. 18 credits is a few more than the “average” load of 15, but it shouldn’t be terribly more, as Arch 150 is an easy 3-credit course. English 111 is really easy regardless of your instructor; it has less writing, but more reading. I didn’t think STAT 311 was “hard,” but it is certainly a class that requires you to put a lot of time into it, depending on your professor. When I took it, I had A LOT of homework due for each assignment. There were two assignments due each week, on top of weekly quizzes and major exams. For reference, we went through a 650+ page textbook in 10 weeks. If you already took Stats in high school, then it should be easier, but it’s still time-consuming. Math 126 introduces Taylor series, vectors, double integrals, and multivariable differential calculus. It has far less homework than 124 and 125, but it’s material is suppose to be more difficult, and thus time-consuming. At the same time, most of the people I know that took it did better than with 124 and 125, perhaps due to easier grading and more focused students (no weed-outs). All in all, as long as you study for a few hours everyday, then you’ll be fine. I’m signed up to take Math 126 and 307 in autumn among other courses.

REVISION

What about

MATH 126 Calculus 3
PHYS 121 Mechanics
MATH 307 Intro to Diff EQ

instead?

Math 126 and 307 kind of go hand-in-hand for a fair amount of the quarter, which is why I’m taking them together. There are many other people that do this, just not usually for their first quarter. Adding in Physics 121 would put you at “13” credits, but you’ll definitely have to work for those 13. Your work load would be more like a 15/16 credit load. It’s doable, but keep in mind that Physics 121 takes up A LOT of time for pre-labs, labs, quizzes, tutorials, lecture, homework, and of course the relatively-tough exams under a curve. It’s a weed-out course like Chem 142/Math 124/Bio 180, except the difference is that it’s actually difficult all around, given that Math 124 is a requirement to take the class. Who knows, if you want to do it, then definitely go for it. Just be ready to study:D

Thanks Mochiman24 and Olddawg! The feedbacks were really useful to me!
