I was just wondering how transfer admission work overall? For example, does your application get sent to the specific departments that you stated in your primary and alternate major? If you put your major as Econ, will it get sent to the econ department? Or does someone else outside of the department admit you based on your application?
Hi! From the best of my understanding, I believe that the admissions team as a whole reviews your application as opposed to departments simply due to volume of applications. Also, most of the time when you are admitted to the school you are Pre-major anyways so you aren’t exactly “in” the major yet which is why I don’t think each individual dept reviews. I think the most narrow way they’d review is applicants within each college (Letters & Science, Engineering, etc…). Maybe some of the schools’ systems might vary a bit but that’s really all the info that’s out there, the UC system is pretty transparent on what they’re looking for but I think the process might be a little bit behind closed doors.
UCLA only looks at your alternate major if you are in the TAP program. See https://admission.ucla.edu/apply/transfer/ucla-transfer-alliance-program “Frequently Asked Questions”
