I was just interested in seeing how other high school’s weigh GPA’s because mine doesn’t… this interest stems from a previous post regarding the frustrations of being under people who take easier classes… thanks!

yes

A = 4
B = 3
C = 2
D = 1
F= 0

if you're in an honors or ap, you get one point extra

o wow... my gpa would be like 4.14+4.03+4.44= 4.20

that's cool

Mine does it like this:

CO classes (like....less smart classes...don't really want to go to college):

A+ 4.5
A 4.0
and so on down to a D which = 1.0

College Prep:

A+ 5.0
A 4.5
and so on

AP/Honors

A+ 5.5
and down.

wow...... i'm so jealous

Lol...I guess you would be, but for an average student like me, it keeps me from being anywhere NEAR the top 25%, even if I try.

A = 4.0, B+ = 3.5, B = 3.0, and so on.

AP classes add an extra .5, so an A in an AP would be 4.5. Post AP classes are usually a semester long and so are weighted .25.

Honors classes are not weighted because at the school I go to, all the academic classes are automatically honors-level.

ooo... well at least they're weighted... do u go to a private school?? i do and yea i'd say our regular classes are like honors anyway... i mean this girl i know goes to a public school and has a 4.0... u'd think that'd be good but she has a 23 on the ACT? i have a 3.6 and a 33 on the ACt... it doesn't add up!

mine is a percent out of 100 and its much different than all of yours...
"special" classes arent weighted
regulars is weighted .2
honors is weighted .4
ap is weighted .7
so lets say i got a 90 in an honors class... i am 10 away from 100 so multiply 10 by .4 and you get 4... so add 4 to 90 and the weighted average is 94
if you get a 90 in an ap class 100-90=10...10x.7=7...90+7=97......
if u get a 96 in an honors class: 100-96=4x.4=1.6+96=97.6
the farther away from 100 you are ... the more u are helped... a 70 in an ap class ends up being a 91

Well, collegebound, SAT/ACT scores have NO correlation with how smart or "studious" you are. Just because she has a 23 on the ACT (which is not bad at all in the real world) doesn't mean she's less able.

collegeboundkorean - I go to a public magnet school. You don't have to pay to attend, but you have to go through an admissions process that's a mini-version of the one for college (test/essays/teacher recs/ECs). The acceptance rate is usually around 15%.

... okay? i had to do that for my school too!

extra 10% for honors courses
im still a freshman so i dont know about ap classes

wow that's crazy i envy all of u beacuse my GPA would be above a 4.0 all the time

It doesn't really matter how your school does your GPA, each school usually recalculates it using your grades

Fairfax County Public School, Virginia

A 4.0 94-100
B+ 3.5 90-93
B 3.0 84-90
C+ 2.5 80-83

I hope you guyz get the trend......

For weights:

No weights for Honors/iGCSE/Pre-IB/first year of (two years) SL IB
.5 for AP
.5 BOTH years of Higher Level IB, one year SL courses and Foreign Language
ONLY the second year of two year Standard Level IB courses (except languages)

Hope I wasn't too confusing....lol

my school doesn't weight grades much at all. it isn't fair:
AP class 1.07 times your %
Honors 1.05 times your %

because our school doesn't weight grades much there are kids ahead of me because they get high 90s in extra help classes. ap and honors classes are almost impossible to get even mid 90s
