Like if I walked in on the first day and said "Can I be in your class?"? What are my chances? Any advice on how to do this best?

is the class full? is there a waitlist? is there a good reason for enrollment to be capped (ie, lab space)?

generally professors don't hand-pick those they want in classes; they'll either move everyone off the waitlist (this happened in my anthro class) or leave it up to tritonlink to do the waitlist stuff.

There is a very long waitlist. I heard somewhere that if you walk in on the first day that the teacher may let you in. The class I'm thinking off is Christina Johnson Chem 6A.

you heard wrong. teachers don't handle this stuff...

you can try the dept but i guarantee you that 99.9% of the time, it's not going to work. why? other chem lectures are probably wide open, you're a freshman (not graduating anytime soon and can postpone to the next quarter if necessary) and it's not like you absolutely must take her class. it's also not fair to others who are ahead of you on the waitlist.
