im checking the class planner, and every class i want has a waitlist. im not kidding.

what am i supposed to do?

sign up for all 4 classes on waitlist and hope i get in, but then i might end up i dont get into any at all.

or
sign up for classes i dont really want or need to take but take them anyway just so i can be guaranteed i wont have no classes at all

oh another question, are you allowed to go to lectures and discussions at times you didnt sign up for? like for example if i signed up for a 8 am lecture, can i go to the 10 am one instead, as long as its not the day im supposed to be taking a test or something like that?

"every class i want has a waitlist" -- is this also interpreted as "every class i need has a waitlist" ? if that's the case, you can't afford to be so picky as to think "if i don't get professor X, i'm screwed" -- you NEED to register for a real class. you might get a less-than-ideal schedule with less-than-ideal professors, but you NEED to have some classes.

and re: casual dropping in, it should be fine as long as there's room. lectures over 50 people are fine and you can hide in the crowd, but discussions should be cleared with the presiding TA in advance.

well i was looking on the course planner, not the actual registering thing so maybe there will be spots there? i am willing to take whatever teacher/time i can get.

tritonlink updates their waitlists/class openings in real-time; the pages you see in webreg will be the same as those in the course scheduler (minus the hours that tritonlink shuts down for maintenance)

i just registered and this is what happened:

i got into a math and a history class, but that was all i could get into. i waitlisted for chem (10th) and cognitive science (4th). then they wouldn't let me put anymore units in because i guess that would exceed 19.5.

the thing is, don't i have to have at least 12 units to be a full time student? right now i only have 8 for sure. like what's going to happen if i don't end up in those classes? i mean it really sucks if i cant get into the chem class because then that moves everything behind a quarter for me.

i really want to take cognitive science because it sounds very interesting, but i dont know if i'll get in. does #4 sound high enough? should i take anthropolgy instead? im not very interested in anthropology but its open and has lots of room.

12 units is a full time student. I suggest taking random/interesting classes that don't really go with your major just to reach that 12 unit requirement. If you do happen to get into one of your wait listed classes just drop the random/interesting class. Better to be safe than sorry.

Yeah, make sure you reach that 12 units. They can deny you financial aid too if you dont reach it. I would always have a backup plan--sign up for another class, maybe a class to fulfill the cultural diversity requirement, or, as said above, a random class you'd think you'd have fun it. It would really be hell to end up with a fewer than necessary amount of units.

but it wont let me sign up for anymore classes

do you mean i should drop chem or cognitive science so i can stick in another class?

or is there a way to add additional classes besides those four?

also does me being #9 for chemistry mean i should just give up on taking the course and look for something else? if you were me would you drop chem (9) or cog sci (3)?

You cannot exceed 19.5 units (including waitlisted classes) until the quarter starts, but then you can take up to 22. SO, you could stick with these waitlists, add a 5th class that has no waitlists when school starts, and see what happens. Or you could just drop a class and play it safe...

But wait... Why do you need Chem AND CogSci?? Is one of them a GE? If it is, why don't you just choose a different one? But a 3 on a waitlist does give you a pretty good shot.

i decided to drop cog sci and take anthropolgy instead. the counselor i talked to told me i should play it safe and make sure i have at least 12 units. too bad, i would've liked to take that class... so now im only waitlisted for chem.

im hoping i can register for more classes when school starts.
