I know there's another thread like this, but my case is slightly different.

I got into UT, but accepted to Geosciences which I have no interest in. I put it as my 2nd major b/c of the lack of popularity in this major and my internship, which would help my admission. I want to major in Aerospace Engineering. I was wondering, how easy is it to switch to Aerospace? If I didn't go to UT, I'd go to A&M where I did get accepted to aerospace. Go to UT, or go to A&M?

Was your first choice aerospace engineering and they didn't accept you?

Changing your major should not be too hard. When I first applied, I chose Petroleum Engineering but then decided that I'd rather do Chemical Engineering. All I did was call them and they told me to fax in a short letter saying "I have been accepted to UT (your major) but I would like to switch my major to (whatever you want)." They changed my major in about 2 weeks.

Well I'm gonna be a freshmen for fall 2007 so yeah, I changed before I started class :) haha. But I think you should just call Admissions and ask them about changing your major. You should do it as soon as possible.

I got accepted in petroleum in November and didn't decide to change to chemical until February. I think you should get into aerospace, since it's not as high demanding as bio-chem, civil, and mech engineering (whom they usually only accept top 3%, and 7% respectively).

Yeah, sadly I have it saved on my phone lol 512-475-7399. That should be general admission. No problem, keep me updated when you know if you get in.

Oh they are probably closed by now, I think they close at 4:30 but try tomorrow.

um, if you're accepted to Geosciences, that means you are in an entirely different college, not the engineering college. It seems that oranged was already accepted to the engineering college, and internal transfer within the engineering department was probably easier for him, b/c he was already accepted into engineering.
Of course, I'm not 100% sure on this, but just wanted to give you a heads up.

yea, they said i couldn't change at this moment oranged.

so, does anyone know how difficult it would be to change to aerospace? What GPA i'd have to get and how competitive it is and such? would going to a&m be a viable option?

Hmm I can't answer your questions about GPA and a&m but I really wouldn't be too worried if I were you. My sister changed her major in the summer before she started freshmen year and she was transferring to enigineering also, but not aerospace. Sorry I can't help more but good luck!

Check the Aerospace program web sites for both UT and A&M, gstein. They should have information on changing majors there.

Sometimes calling the program at the school helps, but when I used to call A&M for information, it was usually hit and miss. Talk to an advisor in their Aerospace department.

i know that its harder to transfer colleges than from within a college. In fact i dont think that you really need to do anything other than write a letter for an internal college major transfer...its not very hard to transfer colleges, its just harder than a letter.

I would call or e-mail either the College of Engineering or the Aero dept directly and ask them what you need to do to change your major to Aero. Like others have pointed out, Aerospace Engineering is in the College of Engineering and Geosciences is in its own college. Transferring between colleges at UT can be tricky. Unless it's change in the past couple of years, you just have to fill out some paperwork to transfer to Liberal Arts or Natural Sciences, and Education and Social Work have an application process but aren't too hard either, but Business, Engineering, Architecture, and Communication are tougher.
