I'm pretty sure that I'll get into CAS, whereas I'm completely unsure about Newhouse (as is everyone, I suspect). Everyone I've spoken to at the school, however, has said that it's not that hard to transfer from CAS to Newhouse if you maintain a good GPA. Is this true? How many transfer students do they usually take per year?

It's not that hard to transfer. Keep up your GPA. They usually start with a class of 330-350 freshman, but graduate about 450. Those extra kids are not generally outside transfers, but intra-university transfers. They are admitted over a period of a few semesters, so even if you don't get in on your second try, you can try, try again.
