So the rules on the housing plan is that microwaves, rice cooker, and other cooking equipment. I was wondering if people at UCSB usually break this rule. How strict are the RA's on this rule? I was planning to pick the cheapest meal plan and cook my way through the year. Are there kitchen/cooking areas in any of the freshman dorms?

There’s a kitchenette on every floor/hall with a microwave, stove, and oven, so these are never more than a 10 second walk away from your room, if that. I do know some people, however, who have brought microwaves/rice cookers, and just kept them out of view. (in a closet, under the bed, etc.)

they are banned for a reason

just use the kitchenettes…

Microwaves: Dorm kitchenettes already have them. Don’t bring.

Rice cookers: If you bring one, leave it in the kitchenette. Chances are–due to you having a dining plan–your rice cooker will rarely see use, IMO.
