Can I bring toaster oven and heating pad to the dorm and cook?

I was wondering if Berkeley lets students keep toaster oven and heating pad in the dorms? I want to cook...

theres kitchens at the dorms.... and no u can't.... they don't allow it

i was worried too cuz i love cooking

I know people who have done that. I don't know why it wouldn't be allowed... refrigerators are allowed, at any rate.

Fridges and microwaves are OK. Heating pads and I'm pretty sure rice cookers (?) are banned. Haven't heard about toast oven but that sounds like it would be banned.

How would they even know? Just bring it anyway and be careful you don't burn anything so as to set off the alarm.

The RAs do room checks?

Somebody on another thread said that they do room checks, but announce it first, giving people a chance to hide their "illegal" appliances.

They don't do roomchecks. The only time they check your rooms is to inspect everything is unplugged during winter break. Though, they will notice if you have illegal appliances at some point. (Ex. they may come visit you to talk about life, etc. and then all-of-a-sudden notice your illegal stuff)

The guideline for appliances:
"If it glows, it goes"

Eh, I just don't think it's as big a deal as they make it out to be. Considering that some of the dorms actually have kitchens with stoves, I don't see how a toaster oven is going to be any more dangerous.
