How exactly do colleges recalculate highschool GPA?

I'm aware that they strip away the "fluff" classes and consider only the 5 "core" classes. However, I was wondering whether they look at a quarter by quarter basis or by cumulative grades after a year?

For example, suppose in class A I get a 95, an 88, a 94, and a 97 for the four quarters throughout the year. Would they calculate individually, and then take the mean? (4.0 + 3.4 + 4.0 + 4.0)/4 = 3.85

Or would they just see one grade for the whole year for each class, and then calculate based on that? So for class A, the end grade would be a (95 + 88 + 94 + 97)/4 = 93.5, or a 4.0

This is somewhat important to me because I've had quite a few instances where I'd slip and have a B one quarter for a class, but have high 90's for the other 3 quarters that compensate for the one low grade for that marking period.

They will use final grades. I don’t believe that they will even see your quarter grades, except for the first semester of senior year. At my school, quarter grades are not shown on transcript for completed years.

yesss alright thanks
