How Exclusive are Rice Merit Scholarships

Recently, the more I learn about Rice the more I love the school. However, the merit scholarships make it stand out even more. But how difficult is it to get a decent sized scholarship based solely on merit? For example, what is the range of SAT scores, or GPA? OR, what differentiates a half tuition from a full tuition? Is it realistic to hope for a full tuition at all?

I am thinking of going into engineering BTW, and I read on the site that the engineering scholarships vary greatly.

they can give up to full tuition. good scores and gpa are important, but not sufficient. should have shown exceptional promise in an area beyond school academics, i think.

Many factors and considered when deciding who to award money to. There is not a set formula. (or one that we know of). A lot of scholarships have caveats - such as the Century scholars program etc.

That being said, if you are well qualified, you stand a chance to get money.
