I'm from CA, and am deciding between a few schools right now. I would most likely move back to California after college and I know that PSU has a huge alumni, but is it mainly spread out around the east coast? I'm also considering Cal Poly SLO right now, which I think will have alumni more on the west coast, primarily California.

I really love Penn State, though. The campus is gorgeous and so exciting.

Also, if anyone has any general thoughts on PSU vs. Cal Poly, that'd be great. (I want to be an event planner, at Penn State major is Hospitality and Cal Poly it's business).

Pennsylvanians on the whole are not prone to move cross country. You would run into tons of Penn State alumni throughout the middle-atlantic states, but relatively few in California.

While I can’t speak to the alumni status of CA (though, at least from what I’ve seen, there are a number of Californians coming east to the school this year, and I doubt that’s any kind of shocking trend), I can tell you that PSU’s hospitality program is really very highly regarded . (Also, we have the hotel where the groundwork for PBS was laid. You have to admit, that’s pretty cool.)

Penn State has one of the biggest alumni groups in the world, I’m sure you’ll be able to find alumni in CA.
Look up on google “california Penn State alumni association”. I did this for CT, and found out they have amazing programs/events for current students and alumni.
I got to meet the president too, and they can tell you everything about being an OOS Penn State student. Needless to say, they made Penn State sound even better for me!

and… @notafemmefatale-- that’s great about the hospitality program! is there any link you could send me that shows a ranking or something about the program? just to show my parents haha. thank you!

PSU also has a strong track record for placing graduates, and something like 44,000+ living alumni. They pop everywhere … it’s a little freaky! In my suburban NY school district, in the high school alone, we had two PSU alums (my physics teacher and gym teacher).
