My older AMSCO APUSH book only goes up to the election of 2000; will it be OK?

yeah, that is fine.

If anything, overkill. Just as long as you know what happened within the timespan of your years, don't worry.

Usually nothing much later than 80s, or so i heard

fall of communism, I think, is the last point you should definitely know (1989)

Know at least up to the fall of Communism and the beginning of a new era.

It doesn't hurt to know about 9/11 but you should be up to date with so many years of current events that aren't so current anymore.

um how long does it take to read AMSCO? is it like a textbook type thing or a reiview type book?

The 80s and up don't appear on MC, but supposedly they are fair game for FRQs. I would worry mainly about the stuff before it, as little, if any, of it is covered on the exam. Do make sure to get up through Watergate, though.

Thanks so much for the helpful info!
btw, AMSCO is a review-type book. kinda along the lines of REA.

I heard up until the 80s

I took it last year and yeah I think the latest question dealt with Nixon? I'm not sure but yeah there is not a huge focus on things past the early 80's.
