Right now i have absolutely no idea about anything in APUSH. My teacher is a very old guy who tells us to read the textbook and then the next class goes on random rants about politics and the middle east. I have learned almost no US history in that class, and I have read very little of the textbook. However, i've had the AMSCO guide all year and i've used it throughout the course.

Would simply reading the AMSCO guide be enough to prepare for the APUSH exam (I'll also be doing previous essays / essay prep and looking at previous exams)? Again, I've read approximately only 50 pages in that big textbook (my textbook is a People and a Nation btw)

^ ditto.
except i’m using 5 steps instead of AMSCO b/c border’s didn’t have it and mail takes FOREVER to get to Hawaii…and it’s expensive to ship. -_- lame.

You could read Kaplan and still get a 5. It really depends on how much you take in and while there is a slight difference in content, the real difference in prep books is in how clearly they present in information and how good their organization is.

No one can tell you whether you’ll get a 5 because no one knows how good you are at writing essays and how much you truly know. Read to understand, memorize it and try some practice exams. Then you can see.

^Right. Hopefully AMSCO should be good review…i.e. you read the material and it sort of sparks your memory and you can then remember learning about that stuff at least vaguely. And then if there are parts you missed it can fill you in, but hopefully there’s not that much missing info.

I just got AMSCO in the mail (it took forever… it was on backorder!) and Crash Course and I plan to read both a lot. But Crash Course probably isn’t necessary - AMSCO seems to cover what Crash Course has, and in greater detail. I mainly bought it because I didn’t know how long it would take for AMSCO to come in when I heard it was on backorder, and I needed something immediately to supplement my terrible teacher’s material and my notes (and yes, we’re using the American Pageant as well… a horrible textbook)
