How fast do classes fill up?

I found a schedule that I would like to have for next semester, and the registration hour for me is the time I have a midterm exam. I wouldn't be back until at least 2 hours after the registration begins, so I'm a little worried that I won't be able to get the schedule I have in mind; does anyone know how fast each section fills up for any course?

Fast. Registering 2 hours after you’re allowed to start is almost the equivalent of waiting until the next registration period, especially if your go at it is this late.

As bigmc109 said, they fill up in a heartbeat. You could always have a friend register for you. But if you’re uncomfortable sharing your password, then you can teach your parents how to register, and they can do it for you :)

In your experiences, do you find that the CSP website has a tendency to crash with the volume of users on it?

Crap. I hate people :frowning:
I lost all the schedules I wanted in a matter of several seconds.

Keep watching WebReg; it’s amazing how sections will open up here and there for a short time, so you have to be looking on a regular basis.

If you wanted any specific lecture sections, try asking for a special permission number from the department right away. If it’s something like Earth Systems (big lecture hall) you can often still get in although it’s full on Webreg.

sk1422 I have watched my son register several times now and it is almost impossible to get onto Webreg in the opening minutes. Scheduling is very stressful and frustrating.

It’s best to have some backup classes at hand (like electives) in case you don’t get the exact ones you want at first. You can add/drop as things become available.

rualum, how can I ask for special permission? Should I just visit the dean’s office? I had to choose an entirely different schedule because of one class: Intro to experimentation.

It’s never crashed on me, but it can take 10 or even 20 minutes to get into webreg from csp. Log on to csp at least 10-15 minutes before webreg opens, click the saved schedule you want, then hit register as soon as possible once webreg opens. If you have several web browsers, log into csp with all of them and click register.

Sorry that happened, even as a sophomore it somewhat happened to me. Some of my SAS friends didn’t get a single class because they filled up. In my experience so far you’ll never get your “best” schedule, and maybe not even your second or third best schedule. What class are you trying to get a special permission number for?

Agreed! Every now and then and especially over winter break after grades come out, keep checking webreg.

To get a special permission number, you have to call the department and ask for one. They will tell you if you have to go there or ask for someone in particular.

Not all classes will have special permission numbers available.

Okay, thanks. I have reworked my schedule several times to account for class closings already. I’ve found one that combines the perfect mix of the classes I want, with good professors, at manageable times so I hope I have good luck tonight haha. I’ll make a couple back-up schedules just in case.

hey rualum, do you know if transfer students can ask for special permission numbers even though they’re not registering yet? all the sections in the class i really need to take this semester are closed.

also, does the system allow students to drop classes at this period?

Damn server keeps crashing

asianshawty I’m not sure what you mean. I think registration has to open for you first. You can add and drop and generally revise your schedule during registration. If you are just changing a section, you only have to add the new section and it will automatically drop your old one.

I am going to stalk the web reg 24/7 he he he.
