How Forgiving is JHU! Please Give me Some Advice!

Well, i hear JHU has a holistic approach. However, i am confused if that will save me or not. My Freshman and Sophomore Grades have not been stellar... 3.6 GPA UW .. however i am in IB so tough courseload. Also, i hate to bring this up but my grandmother with whom i was INCREDIBLY close with died sophomore year and i basically made a big deal about it... refused to do homework(poor judgement .. i know) so that effected my grades for about a month. Anyway, i got my grades up Junior year to 3.85 UW with very very difficult IB courseload. My SATs are decent with around 2140... Subject tests should be good.... recs should be awesome..and yea... i am really worried :(... i honestly feel JHU is the place for me. Like, i think its been in my dreams once .. that is how much i wanna go to this place. i also have research experience and stuff... with 400+ volunteer hours... 2 leadership positions. Basically everything is up to par except those first two years of 3.6 UW... and i am getting rather scared about that. Will JHU be forgiving.. be willing to look past my relative bad performance. I realize Junior counts the most but my how much! Also, i will be applying ED ofcourse. Please Please give your honest opinion. I can take it! Is there a possiblity they will reject just because of that? I know you hear these questions over and over again but i really need an honest opinion.

well...if what YOU say [concerning that you were in fact taking RIGOROUS classes those years] then the GPA won't matter that much!

I was admitted this cycle to JHU RD! So I'd assume that if you REALLY, REALLY wanted to come here to JHU [as demonstrated by you dreaming about it, lol] then that will def. show in your essays, and I think you should have a fairly good shot during ED [NON-BME]!

There's nothing you can do about your GPA now, all you can do it focus on making your app. as good as possible. Join some clubs that you actually ENJOY, have some fun senior year [AND MAINTAIN YOUR GRADES OF COURSE], but explore new things, etc. Don't worry too much about JHU...if you've put in the work throughout High School, you'll def. make it in!

Remember, there is no ONE thing that will keep you out of JHU...or get you into JHU...

Good Luck, and maybe I'll see you there in a few years :)

well, it is upward trend but i can't help but picture them throwing my app. in the rejects pile!! ahh! any one else have anything to share?

I think if you explain the reason for your low GPA soph year you still stand a great chance to get into JHU.
