How frequent do full ride merit scholarship occur at WashU?

I know someone who said he recvd a full ride scholarship from WashU. It would nt have been due to need since their family middle / upper middle class with decent incomes. I thought the more selective schools just give need based aid. I wonder if he met all his need was met, with his EFC still having to come from his parents.

There’s about 20 a year

What kind of stats do you need to get one of those? Are the criteria published ?

There are a few types of them. I would look at WUSTL’s website. You apply to all of them separately. The full rides usually come from the Danforth scholarship (for extremely well-rounded/gifted individuals), Rodruigez (diversity and community work), and the scholarship for hispanic/black students. There are numerous minor specific scholarships as well that put heavy emphasis on research done in high school.

I know several people, including myself, who have full tuition merit based scholarships at WashU. I’m not sure about the other schools, but Engineering gives out 4 full and 8 half tuition scholarships every year.

Your school must nominate you for the Danforth scholarship, and only specific schools are allowed to do so (mine did not). There are other merit based scholarships, such as the McKelvey, that provide grant money to do research, go on academic trips, etc. I’m using my grant McKelvey money this summer to do research at the Medical School, even though I am a computer science major.

So basically, it depends on the school (engineering / art sci etc.). I don’t know if each school has their own scholarship funds, but I suspect they do. Regardless, I believe Danforth gives the most scholarships out of all of the programs, so find out if your school can nominate you.

It appears Art sci does have its own scholarships.

I think there are probably around 50-100 people with full tuition scholarships per year, but the number could be slightly lower. Even if you get a scholarship, you can still qualify for FA or use outside scholarships. Best of luck.
