How good is financial aid for transfers at USC? I’m worried that as a transfer applicant that I won’t be able to afford USC because of lack of financial aid.
What’s the usual package for low-income transfers? Any transfers who can share their experience?
Thanks!
I’ve found USC to be very generous. With my mother’s income, we’re basically considered to be at the poverty line for a household of our size. Given this, USC essentially covered my entire tuition, but did not cover miscellaneous expenses such as room/board. For those, it suggested loans of 7K per semester. I’ve chatted with several transfers and this seems to be about as good as it gets for transfer aid packages. So if don’t actually need to live on-campus, USC is basically free for low-income transfers. I’ve tried to appeal for them to offer more gift aid by showing an impending foreclosure notice (my mom always pays the mortgage on the 89th day it’s due and only has a 12% on-time payment history), but USC took no pity lol. 14K per year in loans is honestly about the best you’re going to get if you want to live on-campus. You can of course try for scholarships, but I was told that USC likes to balance things out. For instance, if you get a scholarship for 5K, they will take that out from other forms of gift aid - they don’t want to leave you with “extra” money.
