How generous is USC in giving grant money?

Hi, i got into usc and their bac md program so im pretty set on going there...but i havent received my fin aid package online yet ( i mailed it last week) and im really scared i wont be able to afford it.

For the people who already got theirs, how much did they give you in grant and how much was your EFC?

(i want to try and estimate how much they'll give me)

i live with a single mom and with her job+childsupport, she makes about 70k a year, how much do you think they wil give me in grants?

they gave me 4 grand, my EFC was 20 grand according to the FAFSA.

44000 to attend and they give me 4... what a load of crap.

What is your total financial eligibility? It should be somewhere around 44000 minus your EFC. If you're getting money elsewhere, then USC doesn't have to give you a larger grant.

According to that, my financial aid eligibility woiuld be 44k-14k...so it would be 30k...but i wrote a really short note saying my mom can't pay the 14k a year because she old (VERY close to retirement age) and is paying stuff for that, and also my sister and i go to catholic school that is 8000 ayear each

how much do you think they wil give me? (maybe more since im bac md? ;))

i got my aid package pretty quickly. around april 1/2. i got 30 grand in grant $.

i hear they're pretty generous about it. i'm sure you'll be fine, PinkPanther36. and if not you can always appeal.

i think they were really generous...but maybe it kind of depends on how much they "want" you? I got 23k in grant...and the most i got from any other school in grant money was 3k...soooo...I would say that is REALLY generous (of course, who knows how much that amount will go down each year)

My financial aid status used to say
"Financial Aid Eligibility - Not Completed
Application for Financial Aid - Your application for financial aid is currently under review"

But now all it says is "Financial Aid Eligibility - Not Completed"

Any ideas?

usc is pretty good in grant money, its 6th best among private schools in how much aid they give to LOW INCOME families, heck even the public school in that area, UCLA, the median family income is higher than that of USC

Sorry PinkPanther36, I was asking the question to lilybbloom, but yeah, hopefully your total financial aid eligibility will be somewhere around $30k or more.

I got a $18k grant even though I have a low EFC, but then I also got a Cal Grant (for California residents) and Deans scholarship (totaling $16k). They'll revoke the Deans scholarship and might lower the university grant if I get the National Merit Finalist Presidential scholarship. I won't know till the fall because I'm doing the early entrance thing (RHP). Does anyone know already if they got it?

protokurios, according to the FAFSA my EFC was 20 grand. That is ALL I can afford to pay, and even that's stretching it. I am not getting any outside scholarships or loans.

So yeah, they're giving me 9 grand, only 4 of that in grants. Bull. I bet this is the PROFILE's fault. That and they took SO LONG to process my finaid, there was probably no money left.

Sorry to hear. I doubt the lack of financial aid was from running out of money. Many people still have not heard about their financial aid eligibility.

I think that because they are a private school they give a lot. I got 16 just from USC, plus a cal grant. It is weird that it could be cheaper than going to a UC!

I got 18k from USC. Likely 'cause I'm po'.

USC is notoriously gracious with grant money with its undergrads. My buddy the grad student complains now, but undergrad he said was a breeze to pay for.

I guess they just didn't want me that badly. Their loss, I'm off to UNC or Northwestern instead.

How much do you think I'll receive? I still haven't received any information about my financial package, and I need to make a decision soon.

My EFC is around 4,500 and my parents are both alumni... GPA around 3.8ish with lots of extracurriculars. Major is communications, Annenberg department.

Hey, Sam. It's Abe. I didn't know you posted here.

Hey Abe. Nerds post at CC, what did you expect? Haha. I like forums.

Yay, gogolbordello, we're going off-topic.

Hmm, I still have no finaid info.

I got about 9500. However that brings it down to 35000 a year, which is over 10,000 more than my EFC. With the EFC still being difficult for my family to pay for. But well manage. Were looking at buying our house, again! LOL...
