One student got 700 (CR) , 770 (M) and 800 (W) – total 2270 .
How bad it is for HYPS in 2016 fall admissions? Just curious.
Should he retake and improve on something ? The total is above average score for HYPS.

There must be other things on his record that need more work than a 2270 SAT score.
To me, anything above a 2250 is good for Ivy League admissions.
If that is the first and only score, I’d “drop the microphone” and walk away. Like stated above, focus on other parts of the profile. IF those are strengthened then you have to determine if the effort is worth the value of doing a retake. And let’s not forget, the score could go down plus the new test format is on its way. Congrats on the excellent score and good luck!!
P.S. The CR is a little weak but the math is solid. Increasing CR can be more difficult in my opinion.
@CatnPhx is right. I have heard from
college counsellors here that Ivy’s like kids who take the Sats once and do well. 2270 is great!’
Work on other parts of your cv and essays
2270 is a fantastic score, but the 700 CR is a bit low. It’s around the bottom 25% for admitted applicants at the Ivy League.
BUT, that said, I think the time should be spent on essays, as a good essay trumps any SAT score.
Only retake if the CR was an anomaly, that the student routinely gets 800 and then this test, he or she didn’t perform and got a 700.
If improving CR requires any substantial effort, not worth it this late into admissions.
I got a 720 CR, and since I knew that it was basically the best I could get, I was done with the SAT.
Why is this even a question…?
It just adds to the stigma that this site is for arrogant people that claim a 2200+ SAT is bad and it makes other people feel bad. There’s really no need to make another forum on this. These questions have been asked countlessly before, you can look it up; there is no need to add to the continued asking of “is a 2200/2300/2400 a bad score?” and the responding of “no it’s not”.
I’m not trying to be mean. It’s just that this type of question has been asked 100+ times and doesn’t need to be asked nor should it be asked.
