I was wondering how good they are in terms of language courses, and how “international” it is or feels to be.
Sort of a vague and loaded question. What do you mean by “international?”
Fordham has courses and majors in all the major languages. They even have an Irish Studies degree where gaelic is part of the work.
They have overseas studies programs, international political economy courses, and programs in China.
Do your homework. Go to the Fordham.edu website and look at both LC and RH campus. Go to the departments and examine the faculty credentials.
And college language courses are notoriously a lot harder than high school. My kid came in with AP language courses and still was supremely challenged. And took a Medieval French (upper division) course. Wicked hard, but she powered through.
They teach Arabic, Mandarin chinese, all the romance languages, Latin American courses.
For most Fordham kids they are simply getting their core language requirements out of the way. Some minor in a language. Some major in it or major in “area studies”.
Dont worry about choosing a major and minor now. Wait. Focus on freshmen core classes, doing well and seeing what intrigues you then…and where you shine and the light bulb of opportunity starts glowing.
Plenty of choices and plenty of opportunity at both campuses though some languages are only taught on one campus. (Arabic and Mandarin).
What is your language interest? I presume you are American and native language is English.
Study abroad is best completed Junior year but there are exceptions to that. And its best to only be gone a semester so that you ensure you graduate on time. Unless summer school is your thing to catchup.
All Fordham students take a foreign language placement test online in the summer before registration so they know where to place you. My kid blew it away and they put her in upper division French…fine…but challenged? YES.
