How good is Simmons?

Would like to hear some feedback on Simmons. D is interested in it because it is in Boston and she knows someone doing psych there. Think it's too small; heard it's more of a commuter school.

I’d say your D needs to visit and find out “if its good for her”.

There are some girls at Simmons who applied and were admitted to BC, BU, and Northeastern, and after they actually visited all these schools in person selected Simmons. There are also girls at Simmons who did not have the HS academic record/scores to be admitted to any of those schools, for whom Simmons is their dream school.

It is small, but not tiny. There is also a coed grad school. And as part of the COF, students from all 6 schools can cross register, so it’s not quite the same as a stand alone all female college. SC has a reputation for a caring faculty who gets to know the students in each class. It’s more of a teaching emphasis than a research faculty. It’s fundamental to SC’s mission to prepare women for careers. At SC it is likely for a student to have a close relationship with the faculty which is not typical at the massive enrollments at NU and BU.

Not sure about commuters in the undergraduate school; I’m pretty sure most of the undergraduates live on campus, but there are adult students, who obviously would be commuting.

I am currently looking at Simmons and was very impressed by the academics and all the other things it has to offer. Of course going to an all girls college would not be my first pick so i was wondering if anyone would be willing to give me a look into there experience in terms of meeting people from other schools.

Simmons is NOT a commuter school. It’s also not an “all girls college,” but rather an all women’s college." Wonderful education, great professors who care about teaching undergrads, lifelong friendships, it’s in Boston, plenty of parties at schools with guys. I wouldn’t recommend an all women’s college in the middle of nowhere, but this is in the greatest college city in the world.
