Hi. I am admitted to HSSEAS and planning to study CS if I were going. However, i am not sure about UCLA's CS programs. I am a non-resident so I have to pay 54,000 per year. I don't know it is worth this much. BTW, I also got an offer from CMU for physics, and I am hesitating between these two schools. Give me some thoughts~

Its good

CS has more job opportunities than physics. However, if you can transfer into SCS at CMU, go to CMU.

That’s the problem, it’s not that easy to transfer into SCS.

The better time to think about what you get for your 54K and whether it might be better spent elsewhere or if there are less expensive equivalents would have been in the fall when you were choosing schools to apply to. Now your choices seem to boil down to spending the money or taking a gap year. I don’t think anybody can claim that what you get with OOS tuition at UCLA is similar to what that expenditure buys at a private. Think smaller class size, better advising, more personal attention, etc.

I have similar question: I’m International student admitted to UCLA and UIUC (besides Purdue, UCSD, UCD, etc.) I’m to choose between UCLA EE and UIUC EE. Costs for both are almost same. From ranking point of view, UIUC is ranked much higher than UCLA. But, from International reputation, climate, job prospects, I believe UCLA is better placed. Any suggestions?
