Math?
Economics?
Film Studies
Philosophy?

I've never heard of it as a really top school for any of those...but that said, for undergrad, it's not a huge deal--WUStL has a great overall rep, and that's really what matter most at the undergrad level.

I second jpps1. However, if you want to major in film studies as a preprofessional program, programs at NYU, USC, and Northwestern are more renowned and well-established.

Wow. I have a friend that has those exact interests..He's applying to UChicago, USC, and Yale.
Yale has great Econ and Philosophy, USC has great Econ and the GREATEST Film Studies, and WashU actually has a great rep for Math..and I'm sure that they have a good Econ, and are one of the few schools to offer a social philosophy program...So..Hopefully that will clear it up (or cloud it) a little.

Actually I wouldn't say USC has "great" econ. Perhaps you meant to say business, for which, USC does have one of the better ones among undergrad biz programs. People often confuse busineess with econ or assume a good business program automatically translates into good econ and vice versa..

To be honest, NYU is the only school that excels in all four categories. It has a very good Economics dept., great Math and Philosophy depts., and the best Film Studies dept.

I agree with NYU, but there are other schools that are good in those fields of study. UT-Austin, Northwestern, Michigan-Ann Arbor and Wesleyan to name a few.

Funny, isn't it? Outside of medicine and related fields, I can't think of any major where WashU is ranked in the top 10. Yet I know of many students who make it one of their top choices. From talking to the few WashU students (and their parents) I know, it seems that WashU does it with the vast amount of resources made available to the undergrad.
