Hi,
I am applying as a sophomore transfer student to W&M. High school GPA was 3.97 at very tough private school with alot of honors and AP's. So far, college GPA is about 3.9 at a top 50 LAC.

Is it almost impossible to get in from out-of-state as a transfer?

Thanks

I believe those numbers should probably get you in...

Thanks, soccerguy.
I had a really tough time with admissions last year, so I am really nervous.

Are you at W&M? How do you like it? Are you out of state?

I am at W&M, and I am very happy here. I'm instate, from Northern VA.

I don't know too much about transfer applicants, but I think those numbers should give you a good chance. If you do get in and attend, you can probably wave bye bye to that 3.9 though =P

Here's what I found in the common data set:
[quote]
The admission committee prefers to see academic achievement at the 3.5 level or higher for 4 year schools and 3.6 for 2 year schools, but considers other factors such as strength of curriculum.

Thanks, soccerguy.

This really gives me some hope.....:)

Hey there Lurkin'girl - I'm also instate but I did transfer this semester from a community college. I'd be glad to help you in way I can in regards to questions. Your gpa is very good. I transferred in with a 3.750.

Good luck to you!

And Soccerguy, you are not kidding about waiving bye bye to that gpa. It was sure nice while it lasted. :D

hey lurkin'girl,
i went to a w&m transfer day and the individual in charge of transfer admission said (almost verbatim) that she has much more leeway regarding in-state/out-of-state for transfer applicants than with incoming freshmen. she said that her goal is to enroll the "best" transfer students, regardless of where they are from. so i think you're good...

hey everyone,
Thanks for the encouraging words. I would be so excited to get accepted to w&m!!!! I just don't want to get my hopes up too much.

I have a question for you guys who transferred. Did you get on-campus housing? They say they don't guarantee it, so it concerns me a little.

Hoefully less than a month to go till decisions. Did they come out early last year?

Thanks again everybody!

I transferred this semester and received on-campus housing...well, I guess it's off-campus. I reside at the Dillard Complex which is about 3 miles off campus. But this is the last semester it is in operation due to the brand-spankin new dorms they are building on Jamestown Rd.

I was sent an on-campusing housing application after receiving my acceptance letter - asking where I'd like to stay, if I prefer a single, do I want to live in a substance free housing, etc. It seems (to me) that W&M try their hardest to get those who want it on-campusing housing. :)
