Classes vary so much by high school that it's practically impossible to compare one school's AP Gov to another's. Mine was relatively easy, 50-question MC tests, 2 essays, and we did a full mock trial for like 8 class days (I was the judge :) ). I ended up not taking the AP Test because I missed 17 days due to a lengthy illness in the middle of the semester and my school wouldn't let us take an AP test if we missed more than 10 days of class. Still passed with an A- though but I was in before and after getting help b/c I missed so much.

oh woah thats reassuring that you still got an A even being gone that much. yeah i dont care sooo much about taking the ap test, id take it cause im interested in politics and my hs doesnt have many ap's besides for foreign languages a couple math classes and sciences so i thought it would look good to take it too

Absurdly easy. In fact, we recently took a multiple choice test that was from an actual AP Gov test years ago. Most of the material on the test was on things that are to be covered in second semester, i.e. we hadn't learned any of it yet. I still got a 73% on it, which is a 5 on AP tests. A lot of is common sense and stuff you can learn just by watching the news and keeping up with current events.

My class isn't hard as in we do a lot of work (we do nothing except critical essays which our teacher never reads), but since he's incredibly lazy and we do nothing in class, our tests are always ridiculously hard because we were never taught the material. I definitely feel very unprepared for the AP exam...

Each chapter we took a free response, and after three chapters we took a MC test. We had to do two Student Research Topics (for instance...mine were on Voters vs. Nonvoters Characteristics and Rights of the Disabled). We also did fun things like...writing a letter to our congressman about a pending house bill, writing an editorial to our local newspaper, read editorials about specific topics...it was so fun, i cant describe it!

It was also almost a semester class, and i feel really prepared for the AP test.

Classes vary, but it really shouldn't be that difficult. Don't underestimate the exam, though. If you study you can easily get a 5, but it has one of the lowest rates for students receiving 5s.

As others have said, the class differs widely between schools. I can, however, tell you about my experience last year. Our text was an AP review book, one without all the fancy pictures and such. It had a chapter on each of the areas stressed by the AP test and had pretty much all of the relevant information. We were expected to read each chapter, and the vocab and chapter review questions were collected for a grade. On our tests, we had to chose 3 of 4 essay questions, most of which were either actual AP questions or in the same style. During class, we had lectures, watched relevant movies, had discussions, held a mock trial or two, etc. Personally, I found the class relatively easy.

I don't remember any big surprises on the AP test itself. I felt confident on all but a couple multiple choice questions and thought the essays were fine. One was essentially a graph interpretation question about social security. I got a 5, and I think the class was a definite help with that.

Easiest AP class i have ever taken is AP US Government. if you watch the news every day you could pass the AP test. At my school it was only a 1 semester class and i never did anything except present current events. Got an A+ and a 5.. don't sweat it.

My AP Gov class was easy, only because the teacher didn't know what he was doing since we were his "guinea pig" class. He always made the answers on the tests to be "A" and he was too lazy to grade our projects so we always got 100.

It was a wee bit more difficult to study for the test, since we learned all of the material via Barrons. Regardless, it was fun. Just hope for a good teacher.

my AP gov class was so easy…that’s because we had a good teacher. We had a lot of homework but that’s because it is AP. The tests we got every single week were straight forward with lots of extended response questions and lots of multiple choice but you have to study and the lowest grade i got on one of those tests was a 85%. The AP test is challenging but you have to get books online or in stores to help you with it…hope this is helpful.
