I'm in advanced pre calc right now and I ended up with a low A for first semester.
Is this class manageable?
How much harder is it compared to AB?
Is it okay to take several other AP classes at the same time?
Work load?
Would you take it again?

Not too difficult. If you enjoy math, it shouldn’t be a problem. It just covers a few more topics in addition to all the AB topics but nothing too crazy.

What do you mean by ‘several’? Your third and fourth questions depend on you and your teacher, respectively. Ask someone who’s taken the class at your school or the teacher about work load.

I’ve enjoyed the class so I’d definitely take it again if I time-traveled back to August 2013.

Several as in AP Lit, AP Gov and AP Psych.

That should be perfectly manageable.

Hey!

So I took honors Pre-Calc as a sophomore- there are definitely some topics in there that are challenging like Polars that may be difficult to master at first. So don’t feel bad if you have a low A! Of course this also depends on the rigor of your pre-cal class at your highschool. (Just my two cents)

Right now, as someone taking BC calc who is not an absolute math genius, I can say that it definitely is my priority when it comes to studying for tests and quizzes. So- yes! It is challenging. However, if you are very strong in math then it should be perfectly manageable. As for workload, I don’t think it is that much different in previous years. You have a textbook assignment every night, and a quiz every one or two weeks. We also have AP problems (Which are little quizlets) once in a while.

Honestly you might actually hear some people say that Calculus is easier than pre-calculus. Of course, this again depends on the rigor of your high school math courses. I personally think that in calculus, the things you learn build up unit after unit (kind of like the way honors chemistry works), while Pre-calc jumps around a bit (graphing parents…vectors…polars, then oh my! All over the place!). So that is why it may seem easier (it’s not)-- simply because it is more consistent topic-wise.

Along with BC, I am also taking AP Bio, AP Lang, and AP World. And it IS manageable! I ended up with straight As this semester So you can do it too!

Trust me, I wasn’t sure if I could handle it either, but I took the leap. If you are hardworking and are willing to put in a good amount of effort, you will do well.

May I suggest talking to your teachers? When it comes to rigor and pre-req preparedness, they know best!

I am a junior who got an A/B in Honors Precalc. I barely got a B in the class. I had a C for the whole semester except for the first four days and the last 3 weeks of the semester. For me, it is more challenging than Precalc.

I am taking APUSH, AP Physics, and AP English. I got 2 Bs (89+), but they could have been As, if I studied more intensely or performed better on tests. It is manageable. The hardest part about junior year for me is laziness.
